The parish is working on building its new church on the 2.4-acre lot located at the northeast intersection of Lime Lane and Peachtree Drive.
Two days after the final approval of the parish’s preliminary plat by the Nicholasville Planning Commission on Aug. 27, the church members closed on the property.
Part-time real-estate agent and friend of the church Pete Sutherland helped the members search and find the property. “The closing went smoothly ... and the building program we are currently gearing up for is the product of several years of work,” Father Justin Patterson said. “Our parish dug even deeper roots here in Nicholasville, itself and we came to realize we belonged in a central place in town.”
“Over the course of three years, Saint Athanasius made offers on several Nicholasville properties,” Patterson said.
The property they eventually found was not actually for sale at the time, but they made direct contact with the owner and made an offer.
The church members were initially quoted $200,000 for the lot. However, the owners — developer Ernie Hanna and his partners — offered a $60,000 donation.
The parish voted Aug. 19 to approve the purchase of the property for $140,000.
Currently, the parish is looking into selecting an architect and getting those plans approved. They hope to break ground within a year.
“Our parish is grateful to Mr. Hanna and his partners; our lawyers, Bill Arvin and Ellen Miller; our Realtor, Pete Sutherland; and many others in the city administration who made this sale possible,” Patterson said.
